3rd Combat Cargo Group, 12th Combat Cargo Squadron

Single Engine September 1944

3rd Combat Cargo Group, 12th Combat Cargo Squadron, APO629

Unit History, September 1944

CONFIDENTIAL

OPERATIONS:     An amazing and rather unusual flying feat was performed during the month by Captain James Craick.  While flying at tree top level in an attempt to dodge bad weather, Captain Craik's aircraft struck a mound near Ledo.  Tearing the propeller completely off, and pulling the front sections of the engine out of it’s mounts, the aircraft dropped a wing toward the ground.  With exceptional skill, Captain Craick righted the plane and pulled it up safely, using only the one remaining engine.  Flying instrument weather, Captain Craick flew the plane to Ledo where he made a single engine landing.  Remarkable enough, no one was injured in the accident, but the aircraft had all the appearances of having flown through a saw mill.

I am looking for former members of the 3rd Combat Cargo Group,  1st, Combat Cargo Group, 2nd Combat Cargo Group and the 4th Combat Cargo Group.  In fact I would like to hear from anyone who flew over the Hump during WW II, or flew any Combat Cargo Missions at any time (Berlin Air-Lift, Korea, etc.)
