U.S.A.A.F. Combat Cargo Groups of the Second World War

1st Combat Cargo Group, 3rd Combat Cargo Squadron

-REQUIEM-

1st  Lt. Willard Maas

-REQUIEM-

While those who have been always earthbound plead for guidance and continue ever to seek for a safe heading, old Himalaya Fliers have no need of that.  They remember Secret Things, they still hear Far Distant Wings that sustain them through the Black Dark of the Night, carrying them toward Home….

Whether it was Tulihal or Myityina, Kunming or Calcutta, these select few who were once on the wing over the top forget little, understand much……. They were taken aside by the Inscrutable gods of the High Peaks, trained well by the Spirits of the Himilayan Mists……

Now, while legions wander through centuries shadows of Time, in fading memory we who yet survive salute those who lie entombed in Himilaya’s glacial realm, from the Bay of Bengal to the jungles of the Salween and the Irrawaddy…… May a merciful God, in His own good Time and in His own good Grace, permit us all to meet again……

Willard Maas, 3rd Combat Cargo Squadron (Deceased)
